Slow settlement times and high costs are a common barrier for businesses wanting to trade in smaller markets. In Denmark, transactions in and out of Danish Krone (DKK) can be expensive and time-consuming, with more than a third of companies transacting in DKK looking to improve their trade settlement times.
Now, breakthroughs in clearing and settlement mean there is a clear opportunity for cross-border trade. This paper examines the potential from improved direct clearing via the Danish National Intraday Clearing System, which allows businesses to tap into the market opportunities in Denmark and benefit from faster, lower cost payments and collections.
